JESCO Holdings and the Nature Conservation Society of Japan Sign a Partnership Agreement to Promote Nature Positive Initiatives in Nachikatsuura Town, Wakayama Prefecture.
Societal Background
Biodiversity loss, alongside climate change, is one of the most serious global challenges. In particular, Japan’s biodiversity is considered a hotspot, and the loss is at a critical level. Addressing this situation requires collaboration among companies, environmental NGOs, and local communities to work together on the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.
Overview of the Initiative
Under this agreement, JESCO and NACS-J will cooperate to promote “Nature Positive” initiatives by engaging in biodiversity conservation activities in forests owned by JESCO and the surrounding areas.
JESCO has previously acquired and managed forests in Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture, and Nachikatsuura Town, Wakayama Prefecture. Now, focusing on the forests it owns in Nachikatsuura Town—located in the same watershed as Nachi Falls, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, and considered important for both water resource conservation and landscape value—JESCO will advance biodiversity conservation efforts.
As Japan’s biodiversity varies greatly by region due to natural and societal conditions, achieving “Nature Positive” outcomes in Japan requires comprehensive, holistic initiatives rather than isolated, individual projects. Hence, this agreement aims to contribute not only to the conservation of forests owned by JESCO but also to the biodiversity of Nachikatsuura Town as a whole.
NACS-J will apply its expertise to assess the current state of biodiversity in JESCO’s forests and throughout Nachikatsuura Town. Based on this assessment, we will consider and implement measures that contribute to regional Nature Positive outcomes. JESCO will contribute to biodiversity conservation by leveraging its corporate resources—including expertise, funding, and employee participation.

JESCO Holdings, Inc.
JESCO engages in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects to build and maintain various forms of social infrastructure—such as renewable energy and wireless communication facilities—primarily in Japan and ASEAN countries such as Vietnam. Utilizing its long-standing expertise in electrical and telecommunication infrastructure, the company contributes to achieving carbon neutrality, Society 5.0, and a sustainable, prosperous society.
JESCO is also pursuing business diversification through a “dual-engine management” strategy that combines its EPC business with a newly launched CRE (real estate) business. Additionally, JESCO is actively working toward decarbonisation and environmental conservation by initiatives such as forest ownership and transitioning to renewable energy for its electricity usage, aiming to help build a sustainable society through its business activities.
Nature Conservation Society of Japan (NACS-J)
Founded in 1951, the Nature Conservation Society of Japan (NACS-J) is one of the oldest nature conservation organizations in Japan.
With the mission of “Making A New Path For Tomorrow, With The Power of Nature,” NACS-J continues to conserve Nature across Japan, aiming to create a society where people and nature coexist harmoniously, enabling people of all generations, from infants to the elderly, to live happily surrounded by nature.
